Bill Barton and Patty Perreira — two well-known eyewear industry figures who founded the brand in 2007 — have brought their innovative designs to some of fashion’s best-known labels. Perreira  has worked with brands such as Vera Wang, Prada, Miu Miu, Paul Smith and, for more than 18 years, Oliver Peoples. Barton began his career as an optician, learning the intricacies of the industry, which led to his post as chief executive officer of Oliver Peoples, where he is credited with driving growth before moving on to found Barton Perreira.The brand’s frames are not mass-produced, and are released in limited quantities.

Given the sort of laid back mentality and restrained wealth in Venice, it’s a bit of a surprise that no one had gone full-on Tiki lounge in the Westside neighborhood before Belles Beach House, which opened on October 19 at the end of Windward Avenue. Of course classic Venice dive Hinano had some elements of Tiki in its look, but the swankier digs at Belles gives it real “White Lotus” vibes. Belles comes from the Wish You Were Here dining group, which first earned its stripes in the upscale lounge genre with the Eveleigh in Sunset Strip, carrying it over to Kassi Club (which closed and resurfaced in Las Vegas’s Virgin Hotels), and then mastered the recipe with the breezy rooftop of Elephanté in overlooking Santa Monica beach. The formula they try and replicate is: Better food than you would expect, well-executed cocktails, and the ambience to match.

A new tropical restaurant and bar that’s big on patio seating is coming to Venice. Restaurateur Nick Mathers of Wish You Were Here Group — the hospitality team behind Élephante in Santa Monica and Eveleigh on the Sunset Strip, among others — expects to open Belles Beach House this month with Hawaiian izakaya-inspired dishes such as yellowtail sashimi with ponzu, char siu pork ribs and karaage chicken, plus DJ sets, orchid-topped cocktails and views of the Venice Boardwalk in the 10,000-square-foot-space that was formerly home to Larry’s.

To meet the current marketplace demand I wanted to take those aspects of the top brands and create a line that was not only luxurious but much more accessible and affordable. I chose jewelry and accessories because I wanted all women to be able to wear a beautifully designed product that invited them  to feel truly special. Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy life’s little luxuries. The inspiration for my jewels comes from my business travels: short trips around the world and living in glamorous hotel suites. Travel brings a wave of joy which is what I want my customers to feel when they throw on their ‘suites’,” MacDonald explained.

Founder of Saint Mojavi, Teresa Pinedo, found herself in a predicament when stay-home-orders had started to take into effect. The Los Angeles based designer was found without a manufacture to produce her Fall/Winter 2020 collection due to all non-essential businesses being forced to temporarily shut down. The manufacture was also put in a position to lay off several employees with uncertainty of whether it would be able to open backup. Pinedo decided not move forward with production or design of her Fall/Winter 2020 collection as it just didn’t feel right, but knew she could step up to the plate to help the community. “I was also emotionally and mentally affected by everything going on due to the pandemic. I couldn’t find it within myself to be in a positive headspace to continue to create and develop the rest of this collection as if it were "business as usual." When I create and design pieces, I only want uplifting energy going into every collection,” she shared.
